Chelsea and Manchester City are both searching for the right players to fill their left full back positions this season, and it appears both teams are set to clash as they vie for the same player.
Reports from the English media is claiming that the Blues have entered the race to sign long time Manchester City target, Benjamin Mendy. The AS Monaco full back caught the eyes of several top European teams when he helped AS Monaco reach the semifinals of the Champions League as well as win the French Ligue 1 last season.
Monaco appears to have agreed to sell Mendy to Manchester City for around £40 million until last night when the rejected a £44 million offer for the full back who has spent only one season in Monaco. AS Monaco claim the defender is in the same league as Kyle Walker whom the Citizens signed for £54 million last week and so they want the same amount paid to Spurs.
Chelsea has been trying to pull through a deal for Juventus’ Alex Sandro, but the Turin based side have continued to insist that only a deal worth around £60 million would prise the Brazilian away from them.
The Blues have made contact with Monaco, it is not clear at this point if they are willing to pay as much money as AS Monaco wants.
