Chelsea appears very close to making their first summer marquee signing.
According to Spanish outlet AS, the Blues have renewed their interest in Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez. The Colombian had a very frustrating season at the Bernabeu despite it being a hugely successful season for the Galacticos. He was omitted from the matchday squad at the UEFA Champions League final, which was an obvious sign that his time at Madrid had come to an end.
The Colombian was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United early on in the summer, but the Red Devils have looked elsewhere.
Chelsea had him on their list of target, but he was not a priority, however, after losing out on the signing of Lukaku, the Blues now appear to have turned their attention to the Colombian.
Despite not being in the first team plans of Real Madrid’s manager, Rodriguez will not come cheap. Real Madrid president loves the Colombian and would be reluctant to allow him to leave. This means Chelsea should expect to be quoted a fee above £60 million.
