Chelsea have decided against pursuing a deal for Claudio Marchisio, as the Blues are now focused on signing younger midfielders.
It is reported that the player who had been struggling for form recently will now stay at Turin to fight for his place. According to reports, Chelsea have decided to focus on younger alternatives like Monaco’s Bakayoko and Atlanta’s Franck Kessie.
Conte had spoken to Marchisio about a move, with the midfielder said to be interested, but has now change his mind to other younger midfielders on his list. He already has experienced players on his team and now wants a group of players that can serve the club for the longer term.
Chelsea are not lacking quality midfielders, and any player who joins in that position would have a huge fight on their hands to get into the team’s first eleven.
The last time Chelsea signed a player who was over the age of 30 on a long term deal was Yousi Benayoun from Liverpool in 2010, since that time, they have bought players who are significantly younger for that position.
