Chelsea are set to complete the signing of Toulouse defender Issa Diop. The 20 year old defender has been on the radar of London rivals, Arsenal and Tottenham, who were said to be waiting for the transfer window to open before making a move for the player.

However, according to the Sunday Mirror, they are both set to miss out on the player, after Chelsea acted swiftly to sign the youngster from under their noses. Antonio Conte has made strengthening his defence his number one priority and believes the young defender will provide immediate competition as well as long term support to his team.

Diop is a France under 21 international and has had a very good season, featuring in 23 Ligue 1 matches, while contributing two goals and two assist to his team’s effort.

If he does sign for Chelsea, it would be a slap in Wenger’s face who thinks his French connection should help him get the deal done.
