There have been some reports today that Chelsea are set to beat Liverpool to the signature of Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis, after it has emerged that they have started talks over a possibly January move.
The 27-year-old French forward has scored 10 goals this season and is also attracting the attention of Liverpool as Reds boss Brendan Rodgers looks to add some firepower to his limited attacking options.
However, it is Chelsea who now appears to be winning the race for Gomis’ services with the Blues keen to use the powerfully built front man – known as ‘Baby Drogba’ in his homeland – as back up to Fernando Torres.
Lyon would be willing to accept an offer in the region of £8million for Gomis, who has 10 caps for France.
The striker has a proven track record as a regular goal scorer having hit double figures in each of the last six seasons for Lyon and Saint Etienne and has previously been linked with a move to Real Madrid. (The Metro)
Chelsea have only one fit striker at the club at the moment and are in need of bringing somebody in and it seems that Gomis looks set to follow Taison and Wallace to Stamford Bridge in the coming months.
