Despite his reputation for being a quiet footballer, it appears as though Willian was unhappy with his reduced role at Stamford Bridge last season after the Brazilian admitted to holding talks with Manchester United.
Willian was Chelsea’s player of the year in their turbulent 2015/2016 season which saw Jose Mourinho lose his job at the helm.
Last season, he was reduced to just a bit part role by current manager Antonio Conte, as the Italian preferred the duo of Eden Hazard and Pedro as supporting casts to Diego Costa in attack.
In a frank interview ahead of the new season, Willian admitted that for once he thought about joining Manchester United, and the club reached out to his agent regarding a move. However, Chelsea refused to hold talks with the Red Devils and he had to forget about the move.
The Brazilian started the Community Shield loss to Arsenal on Sunday in the absence of Eden Hazard and claims he is happy at Stamford Bridge. He would hope that Antonio Conte still keeps him in the lineup when the Belgian resumes full training.
