Chelsea are ready to go head to head with Everton for the signature of Hoffenheim centre-back Niklas Sule, according to the latest media reports.
It was being reported last week that Everton were keen on signing the German, but if they thought they had a clear run at signing the 21 year old, they were mistaken.
The reports are claiming that Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has made strengthening his defence a priority and that Sule is high up on the Italians shopping list.
Another side also said to be interested is German giants Bayern Munich, who have also identified the youngster as a long term prospect.
Chelsea have some ageing defenders now, both Branislav Ivanovic and John Terry are in the twilight of their careers and it was always going to happen that the Blues would start looking for long term replacements.
Sule has previously been linked with Tottenham and Liverpool, but it does appear that their interest has dampened slightly and they are no longer considered potential bidders.
Considering that both Chelsea and Bayern Munich are now in the race to sign the young German international, the chances of Everton signing him must be slim, but who knows, football is a strange game.
