Chelsea are back in the Champions League after missing out last season. However, the absence of European football helped them win the league and their failure to buy enough players during the summer may see them struggle in at least one of the big competition this season.
They started the season on a bad note after losing their first game at home to Burnley, but they have since recovered their form and have won their last three league games. Alvaro Morata has continued to prove his doubters wrong and the Spaniard is increasingly looking like the attacker that could help them bring the second European Cup to Stamford Bridge.
Antonio Conte also has a point to prove after letting some key players go and failing to buy players that their fans would consider capable replacements. The Blues defence remains a problem and that might allow Qarabag score a goal in this game.
Qarabag is not new to European competitions, but this is their first foray into the Champions League. They have previously been only successful in qualifying for the group stage of the Europa League. However, this season they managed to beat Copenhagen, Sheriff, and Samtredia to book their place in the group stage and they will be playing under less pressure than their other group opponents.
Chelsea should win but their defence remains vulnerable and may concede.
