Tottenham superstar Christian Eriksen almost single-handed smashed the World Cup dreams of the Republic of Ireland with a stunning hat-trick in Dublin last night.
The Dane was the big name player on the field and he cemented that tag by stepping up to the plate when his country needed him most.
The Irish took the lead but that was as good as it was ever going to get for the men in green, they gave Eriksen far too much space and were heavily punished for it.
Speaking after the game a jubilant Eriksen said: “It’s an incredible feeling. We’ve been fighting for so long to get to the World Cup. We are very much looking forward to it. It’s not often I score any hat-trick so of course it is incredible.
“I know how nervous I was all day and night. We got the ball, we played better than the first game.”
Totally relaxed and chilling out on the outside but a bag of nerves inside
