Chelsea is reported to be preparing for a frantic spending spree for no less than five players before the transfer window shuts.
According to the report in today’s Express Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is going to splash out £200 million in a desperate attempt to strengthen his squad.
The Italian apparently wants to sign three players from Southampton, Virgil van Dijk, Cedric Soares and Ryan Bertrand, as well as Leicester City’s Danny Drinkwater and Arsenal star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Now, Southampton has made it absolutely clear that they are not selling any of their players, Leicester City has already rejected the Blues attempts to sign Drinkwater and Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said he will not sell any of his players to a direct rival.
So Conte will either have to make offers that those clubs cannot turn down or he will have to look elsewhere and time is running out fast.
One has to also ask, are these the sort of players that will help Chelsea defend the Premier League title or win the Champions League?
The chances of Chelsea signing one of these players looks remote never mind all five.
