Everton’s spending spree does not appear close to ending as the Toffees have made an approach for Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud.
The French attacker has scored 98 goals for the Gunners since he joined them from his hometown five years ago. However, he was increasingly used less often, due to Alexis Sanchez’s form. Giroud still weighed in with some very important goals and Ronald Koeman sees him as the ideal replacement for Manchester United-bound Romelu Lukaku.
Giroud does not want to leave London, but with the arrival of Alexandre Lacazette as well as the possible contract renewal for Alexis Sanchez has thrown his future into further doubt. He is aware that this is a World Cup year and wants to play regularly so that he can be on the plane to Russia next summer.
Everton has made an initial bid of £20 million, and are awaiting a response from the Gunners. However, should Arsenal decide that the figure is too small and ask for more the Toffees are willing to up their offer.
The Toffees have already spent close to £100 million on summer signings, and the arrival of Giroud would take their spending above the £100 million mark.
