Chelsea manager Antonio Conte may soon leave the Blues after their recent disappointment in the pursuit of one of his transfer targets.
The Blues have lost Romelu Lukaku to rivals, Manchester United. Lukaku looked poised to return to Stamford Bridge, and Chelsea thought they could get him any time they want, but Manchester United pounced and secured a £75 million deal with the Toffees.
Conte is reportedly gutted to have missed out on the Belgian even though several reports are claiming that Lukaku was not his first choice to replace Diego Costa.
Conte had preferred Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata, but as time went on, he was convinced that Lukaku was a better alternative because he was already a proven goal scorer in the Premier League. The Italian began making tactical plans with the Belgian in mind only to hear the news of his move to Manchester United last night.
There has been general frustration in the transfer market for the Blues, with deals for Leonardo Bonucci, Virgil Van Dijk, and other transfer target taking way too long to complete.
Conte is expected to resume work this weekend, and the Mirror is reporting that the Italian might voluntarily leave his job if he misses out on his other targets.
