Ashley Young is desperate to sign a new deal with Manchester United.
Young has less than 12 months left on the five-year contract he signed when he moved to Old Trafford from Aston Villa for an £18million fee in 2011.
And after an impressive season under Louis van Gaal, he was expected to have followed Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Michael Carrick in signing a new deal by now.
“A lot of people thought I had it [a new deal] done but I haven’t,” said Young on the Sky Sports website.
“It’s in the club’s hands now, so I will have to see how it goes.
“I’m desperate to stay. I’m at one of the biggest clubs in the world so I want to stay here as long as possible. That’s exactly what I want to do.
“I’ve had conversations with the club. I hope we can sort things out. There have been preliminary talks but I’ll leave my agent to take care of that. Will the contract be sorted soon? You’ll have to ask the club that.”
