AC Milan has contacted the agent of Chelsea’s unwanted front man, Diego Costa as they look to add him to their squad.
The Spain international is currently in Brazil while looking for a new team after being declared surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.
Costa’s preference is a return to La Liga with Atletico Madrid, but the transfer ban hanging over the club’s head and his wage demand are making that move impossible, and AC Milan’s move to open talks with him means he might end up at the San Siro instead.
The Italians are aggressively rebuilding as they hope to get back to the top of European football this season, and they have spent over £100 million in new recruits this summer. They want Costa to become the face of the new Milan team.
Milan’s representative had a meeting with Costa’s agent Jorge Mendes, and although they deny discussing the attacker’s transfer, they have been linked with him throughout this summer.
Costa’s banishment represents a swift fall from grace after he led Chelsea’s attack in an ultimately successful season where they won the Premier League last season. That was the second time in three years he has helped them to the league title.
