Manchester United have been handed a huge boost in their reported pursuit of Ilkay Gundogan after Borussia Dortmund confirmed the midfielder will not sign a new deal at the club, according to the Sky Sports website.
The 24-year-old has been linked with a move to the Red Devils in recent weeks after reports suggested the Germany international was stalling on extending his stay with the Bundesliga side past 2016.
Dortmund have now sought to clarify Gundogan’s future after confirming on Thursday the player had decided not to renew his current contract.
‘Borussia Dortmund and midfielder Ilkay Gundogan will not collaborate any further longer than June 30, 2016,’ a statement released by the club read.
‘Gundogan has decided not to renew his contract, valid until that time with eight-time German champions.’
