Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has delivered some devastating news to the Liverpool fans and confirmed that Philippe Coutinho will be sidelined for at least five weeks.
The Brazilian is hoping to be back in time for the New Year’s Eve clash with Manchester City following his ankle injury.
Speaking to BBC radio Klopp said
“Phil needs between five and a few weeks until we have him back,”
“We will see. He is not in for tonight and for the next few games.”
Coutinho is one of the most influential players at Liverpool and his injury could not have come at a worst time, the last thing the Reds will have wanted is for their momentum to be disturbed.
That said, they do have enough quality in depth and this is a good opportunity for them to show that they can maintain their title challenge despite injuries to key players.
It could also have the added benefit of allowing Klopp to spend some decent money in the January transfer window, there is never a better argument for adding to the squad than when a key player has been injured.
