Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has revealed he would loved to have had the chance to work with Divock Origi in the second half of the season.
The Reds initially signed the Belgian for £10m last summer before loaning him immediately back to parent club Lille.
Rodgers would have had to pay a premium to recall Origi early from his loan spell and concedes he had to accept he had little chance to strike a deal.
As quoted on the Sky Sports website, he said: “It was, but knowing we would not have him this season was something I had resigned myself to in the summer.
Of course, at the beginning of the season when we were looking for goals and needed that pace and pressure at the top of the field it is you something you look at and hope you had him here.
“I always knew though he was going to be there for the season.
“It was very clear in the contract, and I look forward to getting him in the summer.”
