Liverpool close in on big deal as target seeks summer move

Liverpool have moved closer to the signature of Asmir Begovic, as he has reportedly told Stoke he wants to leave the club.

The £15million-rated Bosnia goalkeeper only has a year left on his Britannia Stadium contract and a host of Europe’s top clubs including Liverpool have been keeping a close eye on him this season.

Begovic is due for contract talks in the summer but has been out of form in recent weeks, and that has seen him dropped from the starting line-up.

He was not even included on the bench at the Liberty Stadium with Thomas Sorensen there instead after being far from happy to be out of the starting XI.

Now he has edges closer to the exit door, especially after boss Mark Hughes announced he wants to give Jack Butland some more game time.
