Spanish media is claiming that Liverpool has launched a surprising bid to sign former Real Madrid number one, Iker Casillas. The Spaniard has been playing for FC Porto since he unceremoniously left the Bernabeu in the summer of 2015.
Per the source, there are several European teams who have made contract offers to the goalkeeper whose current deal expires in the summer, but Liverpool have made the most concrete offer to him and he is keen on playing under Jurgen Klopp.
Casillas is arguably not as effective as he was when he was plying his trade in Madrid, but his experience would help any team in their goalkeeping department.
Jurgen Klopp wants a new goalkeeper to rival Loris Karius, and Simon Mignolet in his team squad and sees Casillas as the ideal candidate to bring in that competitive atmosphere at the club.
As the Reds prepare for the Champion’s League next season, the manager has identified the need to add more experience mixed with a good reading of the game. It would be interesting to see if a 36-year-old Casillas would hit the ground running immediately.
