Liverpool face serious competition for high quality target

Liverpool faces some serious competition for the signature Sporting Lisbon’s Gelson Martins following the news that Italian giants Juventus have joined the race to sign the winger.

The youngster has been putting in some scintillating performances in Portugal this season and has caught the eye of some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

The 22-year-old has been on Liverpool’s radar since the summer, however, the huge release clause of £53 Million has been putting the Reds off, that may now change.

Juventus are obviously aware of how much it would cost to sign the player and the fact that they have now entered the race for his signature means that they are prepared to stump up that amount of money, or certainly close to it.

Juventus have experienced first hand how good Martins is, they have faced Sporting twice in the group stages of the Champions League and were clearly impressed,

The Italians are rumoured to be preparing to make an official offer in January, which may now prompt Liverpool to seriously consider tabling their own offer.

Both clubs know the cost and Sporting will enforce the release clause, it is now up to Liverpool and Juventus to either put up or move on.
