Liverpool’s plans to land some of the best players in Europe this summer has suffered a major setback after two Italian giants joined the chase for one of their targets.
The Reds were in pole position to sign AC Milan’s Mattia De Sciglio, but that move is now doubtful after Napoli and Juventus registered their interest for the player.
De Sciglio, 24, has spent all his career at AC Milan after coming through the club’s youth system. He however has just one year left on his current deal with the San Siro giants, and their failure to qualify for Europe this season may deter him from signing an extension.
However, if he does move, it is believed that he would favor a move to another Italian side than come to the Premier League.
Jurgen Klopp wants a more consistent partner for Joel Matip and believes that the Italian is better and would come cheaper than several other Premier League defenders he has been scouting.
AC Milan’s new owners have enough cash to spend and can keep hold of their best players.
