Liverpool’s resolve not to allow Philippe Coutinho to leave Anfield this summer has forced Barcelona into looking at plan B.
The Catalans have made Coutinho their top target this summer, but a deal looks unlikely as Liverpool have refused to discuss the Brazilian’s transfer with them. The Reds have built their team around Coutinho and would need to find a replacement before agreeing to a sale, or Barcelona needs to make an outrageous offer before they can discuss with them.
They have turned their attention to Ozil whom they believe they can sign for £35 million because of his contract situation.
Ozil is in the final year of his current deal with Arsenal, and progress has been slow regarding a new deal, many expected him to leave the Gunners early in the summer, but there were no takers and he looked like he would extend his deal.
However, with the interest from Barcelona now, the Gunners may be forced to cash in on him before the end of the season, despite Wenger’s claims that he would rather see him and Alexis Sanchez leave free next summer than sell them before this season begins.
