Pepe Reina has called on the Liverpool board to help Brendan Rodgers project by spashing the cash on players that will make a real difference to the club.
Rodgers has presided over an erratic season at Anfield, which sees the Reds sitting ten points behind Champions League qualification with ten games to play.
However, Reina insists the club has the potential to compete for a top-four berth in the near future, but will need the board to back the manager in the transfer market if they are to do so.
‘This year has been important for us in terms of getting to know what the manager wants and develop the ideas,’ said Reina.
‘Then we have to be ready for the very first game of next season to challenge.
‘Obviously we will need some help from the board but I think the basis is well settled. We know the ideas and philosophies of the manager. It is getting better and better so hopefully we will be ready to compete.’ (The Metro)
Liverpool are obviously a work in progress and will need to buy players in the coming transfer windows. But there problem has been that they pay too much and that is why they are currently in debt.
