Reports from Italy claim that Liverpool have joined the race for the signature of Chelsea’s long term target, Kalidou Koulibaly. The Senegalese has been a revelation since joining Napoli in 2014.
He was very close to signing for Chelsea last season, but the Blues were unwilling to pay the £60 Million demanded by the Naples club.
If the Blues still want to sign Koulibally, they will have to beat Liverpool to the player’s signature.
Liverpool have now added Koulibaly to the list of defenders they want to help them solve their defensive problems.
The Reds are very potent in attack, and are the highest scoring team in the Premiership this season, however their defensive record has seen them trailing the likes of Chelsea and Tottenham in goal difference.
Jurgen Klopp is keen to turn this around next season as they will be competing in four different competitions.
The Reds are still looking for the best defensive partner for Joel Matip, and Klopp believes Koulibaly’s defensive capabilities makes him the ideal candidate.
Liverpool’s record signing is still Andy Caroll, whom they signed for £35 Million, it would be interesting to see if they will smash that record to sign a defender.
