Liverpool has taken their quest to bolster their defence to France. The Reds have been left frustrated by Southampton in their pursuit of Dutch defender Virgil Van Dijk.
The Dutchman wants to move to Anfield, but after Liverpool was accused of taping him up, the move now looks very unlikely. The Reds have now turned their attention to Olympique Lyon’s Emanuel Mammana.
The 21-year-old made a move to the former French champions last summer after attracting the interest of some of Europe’s best teams.
He made just 17 appearances for Lyon last season, but he performed enough to impress Liverpool’s scouts who have recommended him to Jurgen Klopp.
According to online media, the Reds have tabled a bid in the region of £17 million for his signature and are prepared to offer him £54,000 per week to tempt him to Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp is keen to bolster his defensive option this season, as the Reds faces an increased number of matches with a return to Europe.
Mammana who has been capped by Argentina at senior level has been informed of Liverpool’s interest but wants Lyon to agree to the move before discussing personal terms with the Reds.
