Sunderland stopper Simon Mignolet has fuelled talk of a move to Liverpool in the summer window by admitting he cannot face another relegation battle with the black cats.
A double player-of-the-year winner, the Belgium keeper was a key figure in ensuring Sunderland remained in the Barclays Premier League but is in no hurry to repeat the experience next season.
Speaking on international duty, he was quizzed about growing rumours he could be on his way this summer, with Liverpool now ahead of Arsenal in the race to sign him.
‘I am ambitious, and I read the press as you do,’ he replied. ‘It has been a difficult season with Sunderland. It’s not much fun to play bottom of the League, and I think Sunderland will know they have to change something to prevent another season like that.’ (Daily Mail)
The reds have been linked with a lot of players and it will be interesting to see who arrives. But Pepe Reina is going nowhere, so is there a need for the reds to make a move for another stopper?
