Man City and Man Utd weighing up a winter swoop on Tottenham
Man City and Man Utd are set to battle it out for the signature of Tottenham defender Danny Rose, according to the latest transfer gossip.
City are especially interested because all of their full backs are above the age of 30 and they have identified the England international as an ideal replacement.
Rose has only just signed a five year contract extension with Tottenham, but that will not put off City who are desperate to sign defenders.
Aleksander Kolarov, Pablo Zabaleta, Bacary Sagna and Gael Clichy will all need replacing in the near future and that is why the mega rich Blues have set their sights on Rose.
However, City are not the only club interested in the 26 year old , their local rivals Man Utd are also reported to be keen on signing the Spurs star.
United had previously been interested in signing Rose, but were not excited at the prospect of dealing with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy.
If Tottenham even considered selling Rose then you can be certain that Levy will demand a very high fee for a player who is established in the England team and has just signed a long term contract.
It is unlikely that Spurs will sell, but a lot will depend on how much the Manchester clubs offer.
