Man City ready to offer contract to experienced Real Madrid stalwart
Reports in the media indicates that Real Madrid defender Pepe, could be heading to the Premier League next season. The Portuguese’ contract expires at the end of this season, and Real Madrid have not shown any intention to offer him a new deal.
This has made Man City offer the ageing defender a two year contract. Pepe is unlikely to be offered a new deal, as Real Madrid are targeting a younger generation of players and also have Rafael Varane, who is making steady progress at the club.
Pepe has offers from Chinese clubs and PSG, but has been warned by his national team coach that if he wants to play at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, he should remain in Europe and ply his trade in a competitive league. With that in mind, Man City seem to be the team in the most competitive league chasing his signature.
Man City need some experience in their defence. Vincent Kompany is the only experienced player in their defence and has contributed less than any other defender this season, because of a persistent injury. Pepe would provide Man City the leadership and combativeness that they currently lack in their defence.
