There have been some rumours emerge that Manchester United are lining up Liverpool’s Pepe Reina or Stoke’s Asmir Begovic as a replacement for David De Gea, as boss Sir Alex Ferguson has run out of patience with the young Spanish star.
Spaniard De Gea has failed to establish himself as United’s first-choice keeper since his £19million move from Atletico Madrid in 2011, and has instead being alternated in the United goal with Anders Lindegaard.
De Gea, 22, has impressed with his shot-stopping reflexes, however doubts remain over his ability to command his six-yard box under pressure from high deliveries.
And United boss Ferguson is now believed to be unwilling to wait any longer for him to improve this side of his game.
The Daily Mirror claims Reina and Begovic’s eligibility to play in the Champions League puts them top of Ferguson’s goalkeeping wishlist. (The Metro)
Both players have also been heavily linked with Arsenal over the last few months as boss Arsene Wenger also wants to acquire the services of either of them. So we could see a battle between the two during this window for arguably two of the best stoppers in the English game.
