Manchester United manager David Moyes has identified Tottenham Hotspur defender Vlad Chiriches as one of his summer targets

A source close to the champions told FDN that the club will spend a significant sum of money this summer to overhaul an under-performing squad, with the heart of the defence pinpointed as an area in need of urgent attention.

The source said Chiriches, who joined Spurs from Steaua Bucharest in an £8.5million move seven months ago, has impressed Moyes.

The towering centre-half earned man of the match plaudits in his side’s 1-0 win at Old Trafford last month.

United defender Nemanja Vidic has already confirmed his intention to leave on a free transfer at the end of the current campaign, with a switch to Inter Milan believed to be close. (SportsDirectNews)

Although Spurs want to keep the man Chirches as admitted in the past that he wants a bigger move in the future
