Manchester United boss Louis Van Gaal has claimed “it shall be the season on Luke Shaw.”
The England defender became the most expensive teenager in British football when he joined from Southampton last summer for £30m.
But he made just 18 starts, had his fitness publicly questioned by his manager and failed to make an impact due to injuries and loss of form.
As quoted on the Daily Star website, Van Gaal said: “Luke Shaw is a big talent. He’s very young, so it’s not so easy for him to come from Southampton to a big a club like Manchester United.
“He has the benefit that he’s an Englishman. Memphis Depay is a Dutchman and the English game is a different culture, because it has a different rhythm to the game.
“So I think that it shall be the season of Luke Shaw – that I believe. I believe in him and he has to feel that and I hope he shall show it.”
