Man Utd manager Jose Mourinho likes to plan ahead and he has identified Real Madrid playmaker Toni Kroos as his number one long-term target, according to the media.
Kroos has proven himself to be one of the best playmakers in the game, he is technically brilliant and his eye for a pass is second to none, it is no wonder that Mourinho wants him.
The big problem for Mourinho is that Kroos is an integral part of the Real Madrid set up, his partnership with Luka Modric and Casemiro in the middle of the park is one of the best in world football and it is difficult to see Zinedine Zidane allowing him to leave.
A lot may come down to the player himself, it is possible that he would want to experience playing in the Premier League, he has won almost every major piece of silverware in the game and a fresh challenge in England may be very appealing.
There is no chance a deal would happen this winter, however, if Madrid does not have a successful season, a very real prospect, then a transfer next summer is not out of the question.
