Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez is clamouring for a move to Man Utd. According to Manchester Evening News, the Red Devil’s boss Jose Mourinho, considered signing the Uruguayan during the January transfer window, before deciding gainst the idea.
Atletico who are known for their rock solid defence, do not lack top quality defenders. This has limited Gimenez involvement this season to just 16 games. Diego Simeone considers Diego Godin and Stephan Savic his first choice centre back pairing.
Gimenez is entering the final months of his contract which has a £56 million buyout clause. United would be reluctant to pay that much for a player that would be free the following summer.
Central defence is one area United will be looking for reinforcement, they spent £30 million to buy Eric Bailly last summer, yet they still have concerns over the constant injuries to, Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo, and Chris Smalling.
Mourinho has intimated that he had inform Man Utd executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward of the players he wanted for next season, and sources claim that the South American is on that list.
