Manchester United will have themselves to blame if they fail to complete the signing of Nemanja Matic from Chelsea.
The Red Devils had been in a two-horse race for the signature of the Serbian, after Italian champions, Juventus opened talks with Chelsea over the midfielder’s transfer. However, Juve has abandoned their chase and are now focused on signing Blaise Matuidi from PSG instead.
Matuidi was a Jose Mourinho target last summer, but the French man decided to remain in Paris to help PSG retain their league title, which they could not.
Mourinho had angered Chelsea when he signed Romelu Lukaku from under their noses this summer, but the Blues have decided to get their revenge in monetary terms by asking for £50 million for Matic.
The Red Devils have already had bids of £30 million and £40 million turned down by Chelsea, but they are expected to make another offer after abandoning their pursuit of Eric Dier.
Matic who has been training alone at the club’s Cobham training centre is patiently waiting for the club’s to reach an agreement and hopes a deal is struck to allow him to discuss personal terms with the Red Devils soon.
