Manchester United has moved ahead of Chelsea in the race to sign AS Monaco attacking midfielder Bernardo Silva, according to the latest transfer gossip.
Apparently, United have already had discussions with the player’s representatives over a deal that could be worth an incredible £70 Million.
Chelsea is also said to be interested in signing the Portuguese midfielder but have yet to act on their interest.
Silva has been instrumental in Monaco’s French Ligue 1 title success in a season that has seen him score ten goals and brought him to the attention of a host of top clubs.
A lot will depend on whether United beat Ajax in the Europa League final and qualify for next season’s Champions League, a defeat against the Dutch giants could scupper any deal for Silva, who would find it difficult to sign for a club that cannot offer him football in Europe’s premier competition.
In the event that United do not make the Champions League that would open the door for Chelsea to firm up their interest in the 22-year-old.
