Chelsea may have given the biggest hint yet that they are set to allow Manchester United target, Nemanja Matic leave.
The Blues have signed former AS Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko who appears to be the natural replacement for Matic, despite the Blues keeping mum on the Serbian’s future.
Chelsea has jetted out for preseason, and there was room on the plane for several fringe players including Loic Remy who did not play for the Blues last season and teenage attacker Charly Musonda, among others.
However, the Red Devils’ target Matic was missing. He has been omitted from the clubs 25 man squad heading for the International Champions Cup.
Jose Mourinho was questioned about his club’s pursuit of the midfielder, but the Portuguese manager avoided giving any information, telling the reporters that it would be disrespectful of him to discuss another club’s player.
Mourinho bought back Matic who had been developed at Chelsea’s Academy for £21 million in the summer of 2014 and the Serbian helped him with the Premier League title in 2015, the two have maintained their relationship from that time.
