After a year’s absence, Manchester United are back in the Champions League thanks to winning the Europa League for the first time and that victory gave them smooth passage into the group stages.
The Red Devils have been rebuilding throughout this summer, and the addition of Romelu Lukaku, Victor Lindelof, and Nemanja Matic has helped begin their domestic season in the best possible way. The arrival of Matic has helped to free up Paul Pogba and the Frenchman has thrived further forward. Romelu Lukaku has also started the season brightly, but many analysts think he has to prove himself in Europe before he can be considered a world class striker and this game offers him an opportunity to show that.
Basel are the champions of Switzerland, but the Champions League is a different ball game. They got just two points from their group matches last season and were well beaten by Arsenal and PSG at home and away. This season looks likely to be tougher for them, but this is the first game of the campaign and they can prove their doubters wrong here.
We believe Manchester United will continue their good run of form and win this game.
