Man City manager Pep Guardiola has refused to rule out a January move for Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez following the knee injury to Gabriel Jesus in yesterday’s 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace.
Guardiola was not in the best mood when he spoke after the game about the injury to Jesus and if the injury means that he will be making a fresh approach to Arsenal for the signature of Sanchez.
“He is a player from Arsenal and I think he is going to stay at Arsenal” Guardiola declared.
Now (the priority) is just to recover from today. Sometimes you ask for that but I have a lot of things in my mind. In two days, we have another game (at home to Watford). But now Alexis is an Arsenal player.”
Absolutely no denial there whatsoever, which means that at this moment in time Guardiola has not given up on signing the Chilean international. If Jesus is out long-term, as well as Kevin De Bruyne, then it is an almost certainty that Guardiola will spend significant amounts of money to plug the gaps those two will leave behind.
City have already had bids turned down and Sanchez wants to sign, the big question is, will Arsenal relent and allow Sanchez to sign for a rival English club, a club he will probably sign for free in the summer anyway.
We think yes, Arsenal will sell this January and the Jesus injury makes that an almost certainty.
