David Luiz’s record as the most expensive defender in footballing history may be broken this summer if Manchester City are willing to go ahead with their move for Juventus defender, Leonardo Bonucci.
Bonucci has been on the radar of City boss Pep Guardiola since his time at Bayern Munich. The Spanish manager almost signed the defender last summer, but was put off by Juventus’ asking price £50 Million for a player who will turn 30 next week.
The player has since renewed his deal at the Turin club and looks likely tostay on despite his present issues with his coach.
Manchester City know that their defensive frailties have cost them more points than any part of their team this season, and they want to address that as soon as possible.
The Citizens are planning a major overhaul, they will get rid of flops like Eliaquim Mangala, and Nicholas Otamendi, as Guardiola plans to challenge for the Premier League title next season.
Despite the age of Bonucci, Guardiola believes the player can play for a few more seasons at the top level.
