Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane believes Liverpool can forget about winning any trophy with their “school boy defending”. The Premier League legend was left shocked by how the Reds conceded two cheap goals in their Champions League opener against Sevilla last night and believes they can forget about going beyond the group stage of the competition.
According to him, top teams like Real Madrid would be laughing at their defending and wishing they would draw the Reds in the knockout round.
Liverpool have been synonymous with poor defending since Jurgen Klopp took over, but they managed to put together a run of clean sheets towards the end of last season which helped them seal a return to the Champions League this season. However, they have started this season poorly at the back again, conceding six goals from their last two matches.
Many of their fans were disappointed that they did not sign any new defender during the transfer window after they failed to land Virgil van Dijk, but Klopp does not think signing a single player would solve their defensive problems.
