Manchester United bid to sign Real Madrid attacker and Chelsea target Alvaro Morata suffered a major setback as they had a £52.4m bid for the Spaniard rejected by the European champions.
The Red Devils are looking for an attacker that would supplement Marcus Rashford as well as replace the injured Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Jose Mourinho believes Morata has what it takes to lead his attack next season.
Morata has had a great season in Madrid despite playing second fiddle to Karim Benzema at the Bernabeu. The Madrid native returned to his boyhood club last season with hopes of claiming a starting spot, after starring for two seasons in Italy with Juventus. But he has failed beat Benzema to a first-team starting berth.
Despite his limited role in the team he managed to score 20 goals as they won the La Liga and Champions League double this season.
United are not the only team interested in signing Morata, Antonio Conte who signed him for Juventus when he was the manager of the Bianconeri also wants to be reunited with the attacker at Chelsea.
Real Madrid’s rejection of such a transfer fee clearly indicates that they want to keep the Spaniard beyond this season.
