After failing in their bid to sign Eric Dier from Tottenham, Manchester United have turned their attention to the signing of Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic.
The Serb was left at home while the rest of the Blues squad travelled for preseason after he told the club he wants to leave. The Blues had been reluctant to sell him to a rival especially Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United, but they have softened their stance after Roman Abramovic decided to respect the player’s wish.
However, they are likely to demand a huge fee from the Red Devils, but Mourinho’s men are prepared to table above £40 million for his signature.
The Red Devils face competition from Juventus and Inter Milan for the player’s signature, but both Italian sides would be reluctant to offer as much as they would be willing to pay.
Matic helped Chelsea win two of the last three Premier League titles after being re-signed by Jose Mourinho. The arrival of Tiemoue Bakyoko has increased competition for a place in his position and he has informed the club that he wants a new challenge after learning that N’Golo Kante and Bakayoko would be Antonio Conte’s first choice midfield pair.
