Manchester United are still very much interested in signing Tottenham midfielder Eric Dier, as a move for Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic looks unlikely.
The Red Devils had Matic as their first choice, and a deal for the Serbian looked set to be completed as Chelsea close in on AS Monaco’s Tiemoue Bakayoko. But after Manchester United hijacked the Blue’s bid for Romelu Lukaku, Jose Mourinho knows the Blues will no longer want to deal with them.
Eric Dier is one the best players at Spurs right now, and he is very trusted by his manager Mauricio Pochettino. The Englishman is versatile is accomplished playing in both central defence and defensive midfield. An attribute that Mourinho likes.
Tottenham does not need to sell any of their players, and as such are refusing to quote a price for Dier, but Manchester United believe that they can sign him for a deal in the region of £50 million.
Dier wants some stability in terms his position and is said to be unhappy at playing different positions at Spurs. Manchester United has promised him the central midfield position, and they are willing to double his current wage of £75,000 per week to sign him.
