Manchester United are very close to clinching a deal for Atletico Madrid’s forward Antoine Griezmann.
The French attacker has been one of the most consistent performers in Atletico Madrid for the past few seasons and is set to make the step up to a bigger club.
Griezmann has been Manchester United’s top transfer target from last season, but with the Red Devil’s inability to qualify for the Champion’s League last season, he decided not to move. Now that they have secured qualification into the Champions League, they hope to complete the move as soon as possible.
Griezmann is very loyal to Atletico Madrid, especially the club’s manager Diego Simeone whom he sees as a father figure and this could still be a major hurdle for United. Atletico is also desperate to keep him beyond this season as they move into their new home ground next season.
Griezmann is set to cost the Red Devils about £85 million, making him the second major purchase by United over the past two seasons.
The French man’s arrival is set to be the first of many superstar arrivals, and they want to get it done very early in the transfer window.
