Olympic Marseille are considering a move for Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud. The Gunner has found it hard to start games for Arsenal this season and reports claim he is willing to listen to offers.
Marseille are in the market for a marquee signing, and believe Giroud fits the bill as a player who can both show their ambition and also provide the goals that the team needs to move up the league table. The club’s new owners have shown a clear intent to take the club, who won the Champions League in 1993, back to the top of French football.
They signed both Patrice Evra and Dimitri Payet in the January transfer window, and want to follow that up with a marquee signing when the transfer window opens again.
Giroud has lost his place in Arsenal’s starting line and has found is hard to displace Alexis Sanchez. He is said to be desperate to get first team football and knows that he would not be guaranteed that even if Sanchez leaves the Emirates. He has denied reports in the past that he wants to go back home, but Marseille have the cash and would try to test his commitment to Arsenal this summer.
