Reports coming from the Etihad states that coach Pep Guardiola has identified a Monaco left back as the solution to his full back problem. Man City’s defence has failed to hold their own when pitted against strong oppositions this season, and Guardiola knows before they can move forward, they need to sort out their defensive issues.

Guardiola considers Aleksandar Kolarov more of a left centre back than a left full back which means Man City have only one left full back – Gael Clichy.

Clichy’s form has declined remarkably since joining City six years ago, his contract expires this summer and City are unlikely to offer him a new deal.

Monaco’s Benjamin Mendy is the man that Guardiola believes would solve his left fullback problem, and has informed the club to get him the player at all cost.

The 22 year old was in inspiring form when Monaco took on City in the Champions league and assisted a goal in Monaco’s 3-1 win that eliminated Man City from the competition. Guardiola is said to have been impressed by his performance that night and has been scouting the player since that time.
