Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez have begun plans to improve his squad and may add some very experienced professionals to his team ahead of next season.
The Spaniard has been promised every penny the club makes from their promotion to the Premier League after they have settled some important financial responsibilities. He has added former Chelsea winger Christian Atsu to his team and would be looking to add more experienced professionals.
He may have found one in his former first choice goalkeeper at Liverpool, Pepe Reina.
The Spain international is reportedly unhappy in Naples despite helping Napoli qualify for next season’s Champions League.
According to Benitez, he has a very good personal relationship with Pepe Reina and missed working with the Spanish goalkeeper when he moved to Bayern Munich for one season during his time as coach of Napoli.
Benitez who admires Reina’s personality on and off the pitch has admitted that he has a lot of respect for his former club and would go through the right channel to see if he can secure the transfer of Reina.
Reina is 34 and would be entering the final year of his current contract with the Naples club. It is believed that a deal in the region of £4 million could see them sell him to Newcastle.
