Bayern Munich are struggling to keep hold of Thiago Alcantara beyond this season, after the player became a subject of transfer interest from both Real Madrid and Manchester City. Alcantara is having one of his best season since joining the Bavarians.
Bayern are planning to tie him down to a new deal, with his current deal expiring in 2019. Alcantara is one of Pep Guardiola’s favorite players. He persuaded the midfielder to join him at Bayern when he moved to manage the German champions.
Reports has it that Alcantara sees Guardiola as a mentor and would be happy to work with him again. Pep Guardiola wants to gather a group of the most exciting youngsters in Europe at the Etihad. At the age of 25, Thiago fits the profile, and could be seen as a leader of the group.
Real Madrid also want to sign the player and make him the leading Spaniard at the club. They currently have Sergio Ramos in that role, but Ramos is getting old and Thiago would be a credible replacement.
