Real Madrid move fast to thwart Chelsea and Man City plans
Real Madrid are planning to offer a new one year deal to Chelsea and Man City target, Pepe. The defender is in the last year of his current deal and looked to be on his way out of the Bernabeu. But Reports from Spain claim Madrid are ready to tie their most experienced defender to a new deal.
Man City have been favourites to land the Portuguese international this summer as Pep Guardiola plans to add some experience to his back line.
Guardiola does not trust Kompany and Kolarov to perform well week in – week out, and knows that John Stones need a stable and experienced defender to help him develop his huge potential.
Pepe would offer City the attributes they are looking for, he was in the team of the tournament last year after he won the Euros with Portugal and UEFA Champions League with Real Madrid.
Chelsea are also interested in Pepe and want him to partner David Luiz in their Champions League squad next season. The Blues consider Leonardo Bonucci as their main target this season, but would find it difficult to land the Italian despite his falling out with Juventus boss, Max Allegri.
It is believed that Pepe is looking for a club that would offer him more than a year’s contract. Guardiola is said to be willing to offer him a deal for two years.
