Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers they have held ‘productive’ talks with Steven Gerrard’s representatives over a new deal at Anfield
Reports this week suggested that Gerrard could look to leave the Reds at the end of the season if he wasn’t offered a new contract.
He told BT Sports: “I was quite surprised when I saw that, to be honest. Steven’s a wonderful player.
“The situation is very simple. We’ve already spoken with Steven’s representative over a week ago. A real productive, good conversation.
“We took that to the ownership and they’re obviously now in the process of getting deal agreed and done.
“So in terms of Steven, he’s a player of course that we want to keep.
“He’s been a big part of my plans since I’ve been here and I’ve said it a number of times, he’s player that going forward I still want to very much be part of my plans.
“Hopefully as I said that can be done fairly soon.”
